How to Update Windows Through Windows Defender
1. Open Windows Security
- Open the Start Menu: Click on the Start menu (Windows icon) located in the bottom-left corner of your screen.
- Search for Windows Security: Type "Windows Security" into the search bar.
- Select Windows Security: Click on the Windows Security app from the search results.
- Go to Virus & Threat Protection: In the Windows Security window, find and click on "Virus & threat protection" from the list of options on the left side.
- Open Virus & Threat Protection Settings: In the "Virus & threat protection" section, locate and click on "Check for updates" under the "Virus & threat protection updates" section.
- Install Available Updates: Windows Defender will check for any available updates. If updates are found, follow the prompts to download and install them.
- Open Settings: You can also manually update Windows Defender definitions by going to Settings. Open the Start menu, type "Settings," and press Enter.
- Go to Update & Security: Click on "Update & Security."
- Select Windows Update: In the Update & Security window, click on "Windows Update" from the left sidebar.
- Check for Updates: Click on the "Check for updates" button. This will ensure that both Windows and Windows Defender are up-to-date.
- Ensure Automatic Updates Are Enabled: To keep Windows Defender up-to-date automatically, make sure automatic updates are enabled. This setting is usually enabled by default, but it’s good to check.
- Verify Settings: Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. Ensure that you have "Automatically download updates" turned on.
- Regular Scans: In addition to updating, it’s good practice to run regular scans. You can do this by going to Virus & threat protection and clicking on "Quick scan" or "Full scan."
- Review Security History: You can also check the history of detected threats and actions taken by going to Virus & threat protection and selecting "Protection history."
